The Sony A5000 maybe released way back 2014 but looking at the spec sheet, This one is likely to out power your smartphone camera on shootouts. The image processor on the A5000 is also found on Sony RX10 and Sony Alpha 7 both are high-end Sony cameras.
The A5000 has a 3inch LCD screen that can be flipped for selfies or taking a video for VLOGs. Sadly, the LCD screen is not touch screen and has some troubles viewing in a bright lighting conditions. There's also built-in flash the pops up that can be adjusted accordingly.
Some reviewers gave the Sony A5000 pretty neat scores with the device despite some issues with continues auto focus. They also praised the Sony Alpha A5000 for its great performance acknowledging Sony's efforts of reducing camera's noise and white balance system reliability. You'd also want to use this on areas with great lighting if you want to use it for Vlogging as taking videos with this camera struggles in that area.
The asking price for the great performance will not burn your wallet and definitely a must have during your travels. It's small and compact but performs like a beast. Definitely one that can replace your DSLR and Smartphone for casual photo ops.
